The Blood Moon Prophecy is a hypothesis proposed by some Christian ministers, such as John Hagee and Mark Biltz, which states that an ongoing Tetrad (a series of four consecutive lunar eclipses—coinciding on Jewish Holidays—with six full moons in between, and no intervening partial lunar eclipses) as described in the Bible and Revelation 6:12. And now Blood Moon in 2014-2015:
In the Old Testament, the prophet Joel states, "The sun shall be turned into darkness, and the moon into blood, before the great and the terrible day of the LORD come." (Joel 2:31)
The blood moon also appears in the book of Revelation chapter 6 verses 11 - 13, where verse 12 says " And I beheld when he had opened the sixth seal, and, lo, there was a great earthquake; and the sun became black as sackcloth of hair, and the moon became as blood"
Hagee would later seize on Biltz' prediction to write Four Blood Moons, which would become a best seller, spending more than 150 days in Amazon's top 150 by April 2014. For the week ending March 30, 2014, it was the ninth best selling paperback. By mid-April, Hagee's book had hit No. 4 on the The New York Times best-seller list in the advice category.
“Tetrad.”are relatively rare. During the 20th Century, there was a total of 229 lunar eclipses of all types, but only 81 of these were total eclipses (completely obscuring the moon in the earth’s shadow). The rest were partial eclipses. In this century there will be 228 lunar eclipses of all types and 85 total eclipses.7
What is rarer is what is called a “tetrad.” This is a series of four total lunar eclipses in a row over a two year period of time. Since the time of Christ there have been a total of 87 tetrads, including the last one that occurred in 2003-2004. In this century, we are scheduled to experience 8 tetrads, the most that can occur in a century’s time (some centuries have had none at all).
Even rarer is a phenomenon that Mark Biltz discovered. Of the 87 tetrads that have occurred since the time of Christ, only 8 have fallen on Jewish feast days. Those eight occurred in the following years: 162-163, 795-796, 842-843, 860-861, 1428-1429, 1493-1494, 1949-1950 and 1967-1968.9
For an example of what is meant by a tetrad falling on Jewish feast days, consider the tetrad of 1967-1968.
Passover, April 24, 1967 — Blood Moon
Feast of Tabernacles, October 18, 1967 — Blood Moon
(Total Solar Eclipse, November 2, 1967)
Passover, April 13, 1968 — Blood Moon
Feast of Tabernacles, October 6, 1968 — Blood Moon
Biltz and Hagee both make much of the fact that the last three tetrads that fell on Jewish feast days occurred at times when significant events were happening among the Jewish people:
1493-1494 — This tetrad followed the expulsion of the Jews from Spain in 1492.
In 1492, King Ferdinand and Queen Isabella of Spain gave the Jewish population a mere four months to convert to Catholicism or leave the country. It is estimated that between 165,000 and 400,000 Jews fled the country at this time. As many as 50,000 decided to stay, converting to Roman Catholicism. Many historians now believe that Christopher Columbus was secretly Jewish. They believe his voyage to the west in 1492 was his way of escaping the Spanish Inquisition of that year and therefore resulted in his discovery of America. In Simon Weisenthal’s book, “Sails of Hope”, he argues that Columbus’ voyage was motivated by a desire to find a safe haven for the Jews in light of their expulsion from Spain.
1949-1950 — This tetrad followed the re-establishment of the state of Israel in 1948.
After the destruction of Jerusalem by the Romans in 70 AD, Jews were driven into exile. For the next 1,878 years, the Jewish people were sifted through the nations of the earth. Yet, they retained their identity. After Hitler’s horrible holocaust during World War II, the Jews were finally granted a homeland by the nations of the world. On May 14, 1948, the modern state of Israel was born.
1967-1968 — The beginning of this tetrad occurred right before the beginning of the Six Day war in 1967.
God said many times in the Old Testament that He would place His name in Jerusalem. During their 2,000 years of exile, the Jewish people turned their faces toward Jerusalem three times each day praying for the restoration of Jerusalem and the rebuilding of their temple. On June 7, 1967 the Jordanians launched an attack against Israel and west Jerusalem. Israel counter-attacked driving Jordan out of east Jerusalem, out of Judea-Samaria, and back into its own land across the Jordan River. Jerusalem was undivided and under Jewish control for the first time since the destruction of Jerusalem by the Romans in 70 AD.
What Happen for fourth time?
The first full moon under discussion will appear on the Day of Passover, April 15, 2014. The second of the tetrad will take place on the day of the Feast of Tabernacles, October 8, 2014. The third one will arrive on Passover, April 4, 2015. The fourth and final full moon of the tetrad will happen on the day of the Feast of Tabernacles, September 28, 2015. Right in the middle of this tetrad of full moons will be a total solar eclipse, on March 20, 2015.
Hagee's book (and subsequent sermon series at his home congregation, Cornerstone Church) did not proclaim that any specific "end times" event would occur (as did Biltz in his original prophecy), but claimed that every prior tetrad of the last 500 years coincided with events in Jewish and Israeli history that were originally tragic, yet followed by triumph.
In Jun 2015, right-wing televangelist John Hagee said "something dramatic [will] happen in the Middle East involving Israel that will change the course of history in the Middle East and impact the whole world."
John Hagee warning about Nuclear Threat
Two blood moons have already appeared in 2014 and they coincided with major events in the Middle East and the world:
- A war between Israel and Hamas in the summer of 2014
- The rise of ISIS and the emergence of a new caliphate in Syria and Iraq
- Terrorism increasing around the world
- And anti-Semitism on the march in Europe
Then, there are continued attempts by the world to strike a deal with Iran, which promise to only increase in 2015. "The only reason that Iran will not acquire a nuclear bomb will be that Israel chooses a military solution to that crisis," Hagee told CBN News.
"I believe that if that happens, it will start a series of events that will change the course of world history," he said. "If Israel does not, then it will still change the course of world history."
Hagee has been warning of the Iranian nuclear threat through his work with Christians United for Israel, which he founded in 2006. It is now the largest pro-Israel organization in America, with some 1.3 million members.
"If there was ever a time for the Christians of America to stiffen their spine and stand up and speak up, it's now," Hagee admonished. "To see evil and not call it evil is evil. Not to speak is to speak. We cannot be silent and receive God's approval at a time like this."
He said it's still unclear what the coming blood moons will bring, but he is certain of one thing.
"When all is said and done, the flag of Israel will be flying over the walls of the city of Jerusalem when Messiah comes, and it's going to be forever," he said. "And every nation that rises up in judgment against Israel God will punish and punish severely."
